there are a lot of things i’m thankful for this thanksgiving, like the health of my family and friends, surviving layoffs during (hopefully) the worst part of the recession. but when it comes to fashion, there are some fall trends this year that i’m also thankful for, like:
- geometric shapes (from seneca rising)
- layered jewelry (from JANETLILY)
- boyfriend blazers (from toast)
- draped dresses (from JoDemontis)

this is so cool! it’s a documentary about the rise of the indie/DIY/handmade craft and design movement in the US. the first time director, faythe levine, traveled 15 cities and interviewed 80 people to create this film. such a smart idea. you could view the trailer here, check out a list of upcoming screenings here (it’s along the right hand side) and buy the dvd here. so exciting!

every little counts is one of my favorite casual fashion lines. the collections are usually made up of t-shirts and sometimes hoodies or totes, but the designs are always feminine, pretty and fun. the new winter collection recently launched and it’s called “untamed youth” – doesn’t it remind you of a mix between twilight and gossip girl? i love it!

Heidi & Seek is an eco-friendly fashion line that uses 100% reclaimed materials to make its clothes. the owner/designer, Hayley, is passionate about making clothes in an ethical way for people and for the environment. for more about Hayley and her views on independent fashion, check out this interview with her that the clothing menu posted earlier this year.
the really exciting part about Heidi & Seek is that the online store has been relaunched with lots of fun new styles! for now, there are five new styles, but more will be added over time. oh, and they are all handmade and one-of-a-kind!

Opening Ceremony is a series of retail spaces and galleries with locations around the world, featuring fashion from established and emerging designers. the stylish Chloe Sevigny recently collaborated with Opening Ceremony for a clothing line of her own that’s a bit preppy, a bit punk and inspired by her high school days. here is a video with Chloe talking about her clothing line.

black and white is a trend just about every season. this winter, stylish celebs like halle berry, taylor swift and jessica biel have been seen in various black and white outfits:
but what caught my eye recently was this amazing collection from the sister and sister fashion duo of micaela greg. their collection has some really great black and white patterns, which brings a fun new perspective to the not so new black and white trend!

i love these oversized, comfy, fall weekend, “boyfriend wear” clothes from california clothing line lamixx. the oversized men’s shirts are the best – they looks just like your boyfriend’s shirts, but are fitted for a woman (and are more likely to be clean than the shirts your boyfriend leaves around his apartment.)
